4 tips for using online feedback tools

Not everyone asks for feedback using online tools, but those who do can vouch for the advantage in using it. It is quick, easy and a good solution for getting frequent feedback. You will get more feedback, see visible trends and have the possibility to align your goals to achieve maximum performance. We will give you a few important tips for online feedback.

#1 Consider the point of time when asking for feedback

When asking someone for feedback, please note that the point of time can make a huge difference. Analysis of our own metadata show that people rather give feedback at the beginning of the week than at the end. Furthermore, it is preferred to ask for feedback in the morning, rather than the afternoon. You will achieve the highest response rate when you ask for feedback on Monday before 11AM. If you wait until Friday, the weekend seems to have a priority.

#2 Make sure that you use quantitative and qualitative feedback questions

As we explained in our white paper about how to make an online feedback questionnaire, online feedback is extremely suitable for establishing trends, performance over time en benchmarking performance in comparison with averages. For good analyses you need to make use of quantitative questions. You can do this by letting people review you by using scores ans scales. However, because you want the feedback to be as personal as possible, you should end with an open question for any additional comments and explanations.  

3# Plan asking feedback in advance

Asking feedback during a project or mission is extremely useful to measure your progress and to align goals with different stakeholders. However, asking feedback is not something you would think about on a daily basis. That’s why you need to plan some time to ask feedback at the beginning of your project. For example, divide the duration of your project by four and set a reminder for yourself at each quarter to ask feedback.

#4 Send a reminder

The person who received a request to give feedback could be prevented at that moment. After that, giving feedback will be postponed and then forgotten. It doesn’t mean that this person didn’t want to give feedback on your performance. That’s why you have to send a reminder after a day or two, hereby considerably increasing your chances of getting feedback.
